Dr F&M Mommy Makeover

“To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and distressingly inhabited. Soul and spirit are stretched – along with the body – making pregnancy a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings.” Anne Christian Buchanan

Pregnancy and motherhood are profound miracles, but aesthetically speaking, many women find the effects from pregnancy less than desirable. The breasts and the abdomen are stretched in the process and often do not return to their pre-pregnancy appearance.

The “Mommy Makeover” is a convenient surgical package that incorporates two or three procedures into a single surgical session; an abdominoplasty, a breast lift, and/or liposuction to remove excess skin and restore the pre-pregnancy shapeliness back to your body. A breast lift deals primarily with removing the excess skin of the breast. This procedure may be replaced by a breast reduction for certain patients desiring their breasts to be smaller as well as lifted.

But these are major surgeries. Patients wonder what their recovery will be like. Dr. Maiorino recently posted a TikTok about wearing a compression suit, helping to minimize swelling. In addition to fun videos, here are a few tips to make recovery from your mommy makeover as easy as possible.

Dr. Feledy and Dr. Maiorino will provide amazing results…As long as you listen to them.

It’s always important to heed your surgeon’s post-surgery instructions, but a mommy makeover demands it. You can’t lift much and need to limit your movement for a period of time. Overdoing it or lifting too much can stretch and distort your incisions. You’ll need to wear your compression bodysuit 24 hours a day. All of our instructions need to be religiously followed because they are meant to help you have the smoothest recovery.

Secure Your Backup Person

You’ll need your “go to” person to drive you home and help you at your home for 48 hours after surgery. This is because you’re not going to be able to move much without help. It will be difficult to stand upright initially. Getting in and out of bed and getting dressed will be very hard without help. The longer you can have someone assist with child care, household chores, grocery shopping and cooking, the smoother your recovery will be.

Walk

Taking relaxing, leisurely strolls can help with the tummy tuck portion of your recovery. It may feel like the last thing you want to do, but moving your body is of paramount importance to prevent possible complications such as the formation of blood clots. You cannot do strenuous activity, but walking is important to help with recovery.

Setup Your Recovery Area

Do you want to recover in your bedroom? Or maybe you prefer a couch? Or a favorite recliner? Whatever you prefer, get your recovery area ready long before you head off for surgery. It’s very important to have your pain medication prescriptions filled in advance of your surgery and within arm’s reach within your prepared recovery space. Of course, your recovery spot should have lots of pillows and blankets, as well as a lot of entertainment (but avoid anything that will make you laugh a lot). Have a table within easy reach of your bed, couch and/or chair. You may want to invest in a toilet seat booster, to lessen the pressure of squatting.

Don’t overdo things

This is a difficult recovery involving major surgeries and possibly combined with liposuction. Fully rest and allow yourself to heal properly. That way you will ensure the quickest recovery and the best ongoing results.
