Restore A Youthful Shape

Breast Lift Or Mastopexy Surgery

Breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to restore a youthful shape to the breasts, which can sag because of weight loss, a pregnancy, skin elasticity loss through aging, having genetically larger breast, or the effects of gravity.

A breast lift can reduce areolar size, the dark skin surrounding the nipple, and be combined with breast reduction or breast augmentation to enhance breast firmness.

Increases The Size Of A Breast

What is the difference between a breast lift and a breast augmentation?

A breast lift surgery lifts up a sagging breast. A breast augmentation increases the size of a breast. A breast lift combined with a breast augmentation allows you to increase the size of your breast and get a breast lift done as well.

Good Mental & Physical Health

Who is a candidate for breast lift surgery?

You are a candidate for breast lift surgery if you are a non-smoker and in good mental and physical health, including a stable weight. Common reasons for this procedure involve having nipples that hang below the breast crease and pointing downward, breasts that are saggy or flattened, or a breast hanging lower than the other.

A Standard Technique

Breast Lift Procedure

Surgery is performed under general anesthesia and can last several hours. A standard technique uses three incisions to lift the breast. The first incision runs around the areola, the second from the areola to the bottom of the breast, and the third underneath the breast. Following incision, excess skin and tissue are removed and the areola is repositioned higher on the breast. Some Northern VA breast lift patients may be candidates for a less extensive breast lift incision pattern.

Positions Over Time

Breast Lift Recovery

Recovery time is one to two weeks with limited activity allowed for six weeks. You will need to wear a supportive bra following the procedure and until the post-operative swelling and bruising has gone down. Lines from the incisions will fade over time as they heal but may always be slightly visible. The breasts will settle into their positions over time although future adjustments may be necessary.

Are there risks or side effects to a breast lift?

On rare occasion, loss of some sensation in the nipples or breasts can occur and could interfere with the ability to breastfeed in the future. Revision surgery may be required with poor healing or dramatic changes in body weight.

Risks from surgery are rare but can include poor healing, infection, bleeding and reaction to anesthesia. Dr. Feledy will discuss potential risks and adverse outcomes with you during your consultation. He takes the time to make sure you understand what is involved with getting the best breast lift Northern VA has to offer. “After having three children and be so caught up in the whirlwind, it was amazing the change my body experience when I stopped breastfeeding. My breasts were saggy and I didn't feel like my husband looked at me the same. Dr. Feledy helped me with a breast lift and it now feels like I look better than before I had kids!”
